Agency product description and boundaries
New Flyer of America, Inc. (New Flyer) is recalling certain 2022 XE40 transit buses. The speedometer may not illuminate when the headlights are turned on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Still to verify: match the label on your item with the full official notice, including any exclusions, tables and photos. Some identifiers appear only on the agency website and are absent from this data feed. A missing field does not mean all versions are affected.
If your lot or date falls outside a stated range, this notice has not established that your item is affected. This is not a finding about other recalls or product safety.
Vehicle-specific check required: use NHTSA’s official VIN lookup. Fresh Recalls has not checked a VIN or repair status and does not ask you to submit a VIN.
2. Agency hazard and consumer action
NHTSA reports: An unlit speedometer cannot show the vehicle's speed, increasing the risk of a crash.
NHTSA consumer action: New Flyer will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 15, 2026. Owners may contact New Flyer's customer service at 1-800-241-2947.
