Still to verify: match the label on your item with the full official notice, including any exclusions, tables and photos. Some identifiers appear only on the agency website and are absent from this data feed. A missing field does not mean all versions are affected.

If your lot or date falls outside a stated range, this notice has not established that your item is affected. This is not a finding about other recalls or product safety.

Vehicle-specific check required: use NHTSA’s official VIN lookup. Fresh Recalls has not checked a VIN or repair status and does not ask you to submit a VIN.

2. Agency hazard and consumer action

NHTSA flags this campaign “Park outside.” See its instructions in the official record.

NHTSA reports: A short circuit in the starter relay may increase the risk of a fire.

NHTSA consumer action: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy is complete. Dealers will replace the engine starter, free of charge. Letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 3, 2026. Another letter will be mailed after the remedy is confirmed. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 28, 2026.
